Ladakh Tour Package Overview

Ladakh Bike Hike Raft adventure is specifically designed for the active traveler, somebody who relishes a destination while being on the move. For anybody who wants to get a good feel of Ladakh up and close, and in action mode.
We spend the first 2 days acclimatizing to high altitude, something mandatory after arriving in Leh. The next 2 days are for mountain biking down the highest motorable road to Leh and then on to Likir, the start point of our trek. 2 days of trekking to follow, through Ladakhi villages with green cultivated fields and staying in home stays for the night. A great way of getting to know the local lifestyle and interact with the natives of Sham Valley.
Before going on to our last adventure, we take a long and beautiful drive through Suru and Zanskar to reach Padum, the main town of Zanskar. The next 3 days is reserved for high octane white water adventure on the Zanskar river over a class 4+ section through Zanskar canyon, famously referred to as “The Grand Canyon of Asia”. The penultimate day for visiting the famous turquoise Pangong lake at the Tibetan border and the final day to just sit and vegetate!
For energetic ones visiting Ladakh for the first time, there is no better way of soaking in the Ladakh feel in 2 weeks.

Itinerary

Ladakh Tour Itinerary

Day 01:Arrive Leh(3500m). Rest and Acclimatization
Fly into one of the world’s highest airports in the World – Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Airport. Our representative will receive you at the airport and will escort you to our hotel in Leh. Since Leh is very high, it is paramount to let your body get used to the high altitude and the rarefied oxygen levels. It takes about 2 days to acclimatize to this altitude and only then would we be properly ready for our action. The trip leader will meet you at the hotel and give a comprehensive briefing at noon.
A short market walk in the evening.
Meals: BL, Overnight Hotel.

Day 02:Sightseeing and Acclimatization
We spend a relaxed day doing a half day sightseeing of the palace at Shey and Thiksey monastery. Shey used to be the erstwhile capital of Leh. Thiksey, modeled after the Potala palace of Tibet houses a 15 m mega statue of Maitreya and is the main attraction at the temple. The scenery from its rooftop is simply breathtaking. We are back to Leh for lunch and spend the evening finishing any last minute shopping if any before the trek.
Meals: BD, Overnight Hotel.

Day 03:Drive to Khardungla(5359m). Cycle down to Leh
Khardungla which is situated 39 kms from Leh town is the highest civilian motorable pass and the gateway to Nubra Valley and East Karakoram. We drive up with our bicycles loaded on Cars for about 2 hrs to reach the pass. The last 10 Kms of road is in bad condition and takes a while before we reach there. The pass has a small shrine and a big board the declares it to be the highest motorable pass in the world. Streams of prayer flags flutter briskly in the wind that blows in from everywhere. Some stupendous views of Saser range and the Nubra Valley from there. We have a cup of hot black tea served by the military canteen as the cycles are offloaded from the Cars. The cycle down to Leh is pure joy as the only effort that goes in is controlling the brakes to keep the speed of the bike under check. The views of Stok Range and Leh Valley is awesome and we take our time stopping often to click pictures. We have our packed lunch somewhere on the way with great views and sunshine. Continue down to Leh post lunch. This day helps us acclimatize further for the bigger adventure ahead.
Meals: BD, Overnight Hotel.

Day 04:Cycle to Likir(3650m)
Likir is about 52 Kms away from Leh in the Sham Valley and has a 25 ft gold covered statue of Lord Buddha. We cycle all the way to Likir. Most of the way is flat or downhill except some parts in between after Basgo fort when we have to cycle up. People not feeling like it could always jump onto the support vehicle which will follow along. We stop by at the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, the Indus-Zanskar confluence and Basgo Fort, before reaching our final destination, Likir. Lunch on the way. At Likir, we spend our day exploring the village and the monastery with the mega statue.
Meals: BLD, Overnight Homestay.

Day 05:Trek to Yangthang(3700m)
A 5 hour trek over 2 small passes Phobe La(3580m) and Chagatse La(3630m) tkes us to Yangthang. The trail immediately leaves the green village of Likir and gets onto the arid trail. After Phobe La we descend to the small village of Sumdo, where we have lunch. Post-Lunch, there is a steep hike to Chagatse La, from where we descend a little and go up again to the green farms of Yangthang. Ridzong monastery is one more hour below Yangthang.
Meals: BLD, Overnight Homestay.

Day 06:Trek to Temisgam. Drive to Kargil(2680m) via Lamayuru
From upper Yangthang, we move to lower side with a handful of houses, cross a stream and walk up to the pass at Tsermangchan La (3750m). We stop for lunch at Hemisshukpachen,a big village with a road skirting its boundary. It has also got a huge statue of Buddha newly installed at the highest point in the middle of the village. Post-lunch, a gradual ascent from the village on a barren landscape takes us to 2 chortens with prayer flags. From here, we descend on a narrow dusty trail to climb steeply to Meptak La(3980m) with prayerflags. From here, we descend to the village of Ang. Our vehicles will be waiting to drive us to Kargil(132kms). We stop by at the ancient Lamayuru monastery set in a stunning moonlike surface. After the visit to Lamayuru we continue our drive to Kargil.
Trek time: 5 hrs. Driving: 4 hrs
Meals: BLD, Overnight Hotel.

Day 07:Drive to Padum(3670m)
We start early from Kargil and drive all the way to Padum(230Km), the main town of Zanskar Valley crossing the Penzi La(4440m) with amazing views of Drang Drung glacier. It is amazing to see how the landscape changes from the green Suru Valley to to the completely arid Zanskar valley. In between, we also see the giant 7000m mountains of Zanskar – Nun and Kun. A tiring day!
Driving: 10 hrs
Meals: BLD, Overnight Guest House.

Day 08:Zanskar Sightseeing. Drive to Zangla(3930m)
After a long day of driving, we take it easy and spend the day relaxed just checking out Padum and Karsha monastery built on a mountainside above Karsha village. For lunch we shift to Zangla village, where we start our rafting adventure. Spend the rest of the day exploring Zangla and the Khar(fort).
Driving time: 2 hrs
Meals: BLD, Overnight Camp.

Day 09:Raft to Nyerak
After a comprehensive safety briefing, we begin our whitewater rafting adventure on the Zanskar. The scenery is simply stunning as we gently float down for the first hour. Then, we enter the famous Zanskar gorge and the water does get turbulent. We continuously hit class 3 to 3+ rapids. As soon as we enter the gorge, there is one class 4 which requires a little scouting and might eat some time. Apart from that, most of the section is thoroughly enjoyable and we reach Nyerak Pulu by late afternoon. Lunch is someplace on the way.
Rafting time: 5-6 hrs
Meals: BLD, Overnight Camp.

Day 10:Raft to Chilling
Today is again a total blast as we raft through grade 3+ to 4 rapids. We stop again for scouting a rapid called constriction, where the entire Zanskar flows through a bottleneck, and has seen many boats flip! Post that section, we stop for lunch at the perennial waterfall pouring out of a nostril like cavity in the rock. This is one waterfall that never freezes even in winters when the Zanskar experiences temperatures of -30 and below forcing the entire top layer of the river to freeze forming a chadar! Check “Chadar Trek” for more information on the same. After lunch, we have another 2 hours and some good rapids before we reach Chilling campsite.
Rafting time: 5-6 hrs
Meals: BLD, Overnight Camp.

Day 11:Raft to Nimo. Drive to Leh
The last section has road support and is the classic Zanskar day trip section offering the best rapids on the entire river. Its all boom boom till we reach the vehicle bridge over Zanskar. After this it is a gentle float section to the confluence with the Indus and further on to the takeout point. We have lunch at the takeout, dry ourselves and hop onto our cars to drive back to Leh. Evening free to check out the vibrant Leh market and restaurants after almost a week in the wilderness filled with high action.
Rafting time: 3 hrs
Meals: BL, Overnight Hotel.

Day 12:Pangong day visit
A visit to Ladakh is not complete without visiting the turquoise coloured 135km long Pangong Lak with the Chang Chenmo mountains making its backdrop. The Pangong Lake actually spans 2 countries – India and China, with only one thirds of the lake in on our side of the border. We make an estra early start and drive for almost 5 hrs over the high Chang La to reach the lake. A couple of hours combined with lunch and we are ready to drive back to Leh.
Driving time: 10 hrs
Meals: BL, Overnight Hotel.

Day 13:Free day
An entire day to completely relax and do what you feel like after the hectic activity of the past few days. Laze around in your hotel, curl up with a book, or just go window shopping in Leh. Entirely yours. This day also works as a buffer day if our adventures get extended due to weather conditions or any other unforeseeable causes.
Meals: BD, Overnight Hotel.

Day 14:Depart
Transfer to the Leh airport early in the morning after breakfast for departure. Trip Ends.
Meals: B
