Kathog Lake known as ‘Kathok Tsho’ is a beautiful lake, located in the west part of Sikkim in Yuksom. It gets its name from Lama Kathok Kuntu Zangpo who introduced Buddhism here. The clear waters of this serene lake reflect the surrounding mountains and sky.
The Prayer flags around the lake add colour to the largely lush green environs around the lake. The whole effect is mesmerizing. Locals consider the lake holy, the lake having been sanctified by Lama Kathog himself.
Even today a purification ceremony is done by lamas to maintain its sanctity. It’s a great place for people who prefer quiet settings and seek solace in solitude.
A great place to rest at the end of a long tiring day both for weary trekkers and tourists. Experiment your photography skills esp where you love capturing the reflection in the mirror-like waters. These sights are part of our Tour of Sikkim and Treks both in Spring and Autumn.
