Samdruptse Hill is also known as the ‘wish fulfilling hill’. It is situated 5 km away from Namchi, at an elevation of 2134 m (7000 ft).
The best time to visit this place is during the month of Feb till May and from Sep to mid-Dec, when the weather is pleasing and views soul fulfilling. This epic slope is ornamented with the mammoth statue of the Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), the holy patron saint of Sikkim who has been showering its favours over a thousand years.
The statue of Padmasambhava is 45 Mts tall overlooking the entire city and is overlaid with gold that sparkles when the daylight falls over it. The statue is an incredible triumph of engineering. It took around seven years to complete the construction under the sponsorship of Sikkim State Government. The foundation stone for the statue was laid by Dalai Lama in the year 1997. Locals believe the hill to be a dormant volcano and only prayers can hold it from erupting, that is why the local monks offer their prayers to it.
